In September 2023, DCSA engineering completed the detailed design of a work platform for a refrigeration system. The industrial facility is located in a chemical plant in Ludwigshafen, Germany. The scope of work included the production of shop and assembly drawings of the supporting steel structure and secondary elements, railings and industrial steel gratings. In addition, the appropriate bills of materials and shipping were prepared.
Design of the work platform and its challenges

Therefore, due to the need to install a new refrigeration system, it was necessary to design a new work platform that would meet the highest standards of performance and safety. The new work platform was designed to carry the entire load of the refrigeration system. Thanks to this, the existing structure of the industrial building was not burdened with additional weight. The key element of the project was the main frame, which was rigidly fixed in reinforced concrete foundations. This solution guarantees the stability and reliability of the entire structure. HEA profiles with different load-bearing capacities, such as HEA450, HEA600 and HEA700, were used in the design to meet different strength requirements.
The work platform was designed so that the refrigeration system is roofed, which is an important element in protecting the equipment from weather conditions. In addition, the platform was equipped with crane beams, which allows for the possible assembly and disassembly of operating elements of the refrigeration equipment. This is a flexible solution that allows for efficient service and maintenance of the system.
During the design work on the work platform, special attention was paid to potential collisions with the refrigeration system piping. Knowledge of the dimensions and construction of the pipes was crucial to avoid potential problems and ensure smooth installation and use of the platform.
The biggest challenge of this project was to coordinate the design work of the steel structure of the work platform with the design work of the refrigeration system installation equipment. The need to carry out work on two key elements of infrastructure simultaneously required care, precision and excellent communication between the design teams.
