Project description:
In April 2023, DCSA engineering completed work on the inventory project of an industrial pipe bridges for industrial pipelines. The industrial facility is located in a production plant in Karlsruhe, Germany. The scope of work included the preparation of photographic documentation and sketches of support structures for pipelines along with marking the profiles of structural elements.
Review of industrial pipe bridges and analysis of their steel structure
With the dynamic development of industry, the demand for infrastructure that can meet increasingly complex and demanding needs is growing. In many cases, it is necessary to install additional above-ground pipelines to support new processes and technological systems. One of the key elements of such infrastructure are industrial pipe bridges, which play the role not only of load-bearing structures, but also constitute an integral part of production processes. Therefore, it was extremely important to carry out an inventory project to thoroughly assess the existing pipe bridges and ensure their proper preparation for the installation of additional pipelines.
The inventory project process began with a thorough assessment of each of the four existing industrial pipe bridges. The aim of this step was to understand the current technical condition, load-bearing capacity and identify any post-construction changes or additional structures. This is the basic information that forms the foundation for further design activities.
During the inventory, special attention was paid to the structure of the pipe bridges structures. It was found that the main load-bearing elements were made of HEA or HEB type I-beams, which is characteristic of industrial pipe bridges with significant load-bearing capacity. The vertical and horizontal bracings were made in the form of equal-sided angles, which provide solid stiffening for the entire structure.
The supporting structures for the pipelines were designed with the specifics of each pipe bridges in mind. Depending on the needs, flat single-, two- or three-level main frames were used, which were attached to the reinforced concrete foundations in a hinged manner. The main longitudinal beams, which are solid or lattice, depending on the static and strength requirements, are supported between the load-bearing frames. Additionally, intermediate support beams are attached to the longitudinal beam structure.
To ensure the appropriate stiffness and stability of the pipe bridges, horizontal bracings are used. They are a key part of the structure, stiffening the space between the frames. A particularly interesting element is the lattice structure of the fixed points of the industrial viaduct. The fixed points consist of two main frames attached to the foundations together with the lattice in four vertical planes. This solution transfers horizontal forces and ensures the appropriate stability of the structure.
One of the most satisfying aspects of the implementation of this project was carrying out on-site measurements and checking the profiles of the structural elements of the industrial pipe bridges. These activities allow for obtaining precise information on the technical condition and the need for any work to strengthen the structure or repair the pipe bridges.
The role of industrial pipe bridges in the infrastructure of industrial facilities
Industrial pipe bridges play a key role in ensuring the efficient functioning of various types of industrial facilities. They are not only important elements of infrastructure, but also ensure reliability and safety for industrial pipelines and employees on the premises of an industrial plant. The inventory project of an industrial viaduct is a complex process that aims to precisely determine the technical condition, possible damage, and to plan possible repair or modernization works.
The inventory project of industrial pipe bridges for industrial pipelines is a process that requires not only accuracy, but also knowledge and experience in the field of construction and technological engineering. To ensure the reliability, safety and efficiency of industrial pipe bridges, it is necessary to carry out a comprehensive inventory, which is the foundation for further design activities. Implementation of new above-ground pipelines in existing pipe bridges is a challenge that can be implemented effectively and efficiently, while maintaining the highest quality and safety standards.
